Newly appointed Minister of Mines and Mining Development Winston Chitando has officiated the handing over of residential blocks built by Mimosa Mining Company to Shungu Dzevana Children’s Village in Harare.

The blocks that were handed over in the presence of the Labor and Social Welfare Minister Petronella Kagonye, Chiefs and the Zvishavane Community Share Ownership Trust will see over 300 orphans benefiting from the decent accommodation.

“The newly constructed Shungu Dzevana Children’s Village is more than a brick and project. It resembles hope and care. Above all, this is a project based on love,”said Chitando.

National Director of the Shungu Dzevana Trust Sister Mercy Mutyambizi thanked the Mimosa Mining Company and other players that contributed to the building the blocks despite economic hardships facing the country.

“It has not been an easy journey to get here but with the help and encouragement from His Grace the Archbishop of Harare, the board members, fellow heads of Catholic run orphanages in Archdiocese of Harare, friends of Shungu and the support from Mimosa Mining Company and all the others I have not mentioned,” said Mutyambizi.

“I am really excited with the new village which has enabled us to comply with the Social Welfare regulations and the laws of the country.”

“To Mimosa Mining Company, I hope this partnership with Shungu Dzevana will continue even as Hon Chitando takes a much more responsibility in the nation of Zimbabwe” Mutyambizi added on.

Shungu Dzevana is an organisation that was established in 1992 by Sister Mercy Mutyambizi, a Roman Catholic nun for orphans and vulnerable children in Zimbabwe.

The construction projects for the new residential buildings were started before Chitando was elevated from being Executive Chairman of Mimosa Holdings to the Mines and Mining Development Minister.
