The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) governor Dr. John Mangudya yesterday updated on the investigations of top officials that were, on Monday this week, suspended on allegations of impropriety on Monday.

Four senior RBZ officials were suspended following William Gerald Mutumanje’s (known as Acie Lumumba) accusations of corruption on the central bank’s senior members.

“Further to the Press Statement issued on 23 October 2018, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (the “Bank”) wishes to advise members of the public that the Bank’s Board of Directors  is seized with the matter and has directed its Audit and Oversight Committee to urgently look into the issues,” Mangudya said in the latest update.

“The Committee has been tasked to immediately work in conjunction with external auditors and other stakeholders to investigate the matter”

The top officials suspended include Messrs Mirirai Chiremba, Norman Mataruka, Gresham Muradzikwa, and Azvinandawa Saburi according to Mangudya’s press statement on 23 October 2018.

“Consequently, on 22 October 2018, the Bank suspended the quartet from employment for an indefinite period to pave way for the investigations,” Mangudya said on his press statement announcing the suspension.

“Once the investigations have been concluded, the public shall be advised of the outcome and the appropriate corrective action to be taken as dictated by the outcome of the investigations.”

Mangudya also said the bank found it necessary to suspend the quartet for the sake of transparency and good corporate governance, that the allegations to be followed through and investigated in line with the Bank’s Employment Code of Conduct.

Besides the quartet, Mutumbanje nicknamed another figure allegedly involved in corruption “Queen B” and this has led to many guesses on the face behind the ghost.

“Upon conclusion of the investigations, the public will be appraised of the outcome in the interest of transparency and good governance,” Mangudya said.
