The government has, today offered $400 million cost to civil servants for the cost of living adjustments as the country’s economy continues on a rough path.
At a press conference attended by the Minister of Finance, Mthuli Ncube, and the Public Service Commission (PSC) Chairman Dr. Vincent Hungwe the Labour Minister Sekai Nzenza said the cost of living adjustment offer will be implemented starting from the 1st of April 2019 and will be reviewed in June this year.
“This is an outcome of the processes of negotiations that have taken place in order to support the civil servants given the cost of living that continues in the country,” Nzenza said.
“The workers agreed with the government that $400 million will be given as an offer from the initial offer of $350 million.”
Besides the $400 million, the government is adding 10 more buses to the 53 fleets nationwide on non monetary benefits according to the PSC Chairman
“Over and above that we have also entered into some public-private sector arrangements with private bus operators and we have managed to secure an additional 14 buses,” Hungwe said.
“In addition, colleagues, treasury has also principally agreed that we must acquire an additional 20 buses on a lease base.”
The Finance Minister Ncube who made a breakdown of the $400 million said the public service and the security services are getting $281.4 million.
Health services Board gets $56.8 million, Judicial Services Commission, $2.5 million and Independent Commissions $56.8 million.
