Super Rugby Charges Down On Harare

Harare will see Super Rugby return to its streets on Saturday the 28th of January.  The Rugby special has been dubbed Super Rugby Weekend and will be held at the National Sports Stadium. The tournament will feature South African rugby giants, Vodacom Bulls, Emirates Lions, Toyota Cheetahs and DHL Stormers. The four teams are doing their final preparations ahead of the upcoming Super Rugby season and as evidenced by the full strength squads that the teams will be fielding on Saturday, the Super Rugby Weekend is going to be an explosive event. The 2nd edition of the tournament is being organized by Kyros Sports who also organized last year’s. Having grown from two teams to four, the Super Rugby weekend is only growing with each passing year. In an interview with Mic, Set and Match, Nyasha Muchochomi from Kyros Sports said the eventual aim for Kyros Sports is to have Zimbabwe become a Super Rugby destination as the Super Rugby fraternity continues to grow. 

The tournament was schedule to begin at 10:00 with Prince Edward and Kyle College battling it out in the first curtain raiser of the day. However, according to Kyros Sports’ Twitter account, the match has been cancelled due to injuries. XP Horns and Mutare will face off at 11:00 and Old Mutual Tag Rugby will take the field at 12:00. The first Super Rugby teams to square off will be the Vodacom Bulls and the Emirates Lions at 13:00. The DHL Stormers will then have a go versus the Toyota Cheetahs at 15:15 in the final match of the day.The Vodacom Bulls arrive in Harare today, the 26th of January at midday and will run a coaching clinic at Heritage at 15:00. The rest of the teams arrive on Friday the 27th at midday as well. There will also be coaching clinics at Harare Sports Club and Chinotimba Primary school before the teams leave the country. The Stormers, Bulls and Cheetahs will be heading to Victoria Falls on Sunday the 29th where they’ll engage in team building exercises. Tickets to the Super Rugby weekend can be found at various SPAR outlets and will be ranging from $2 to $25.
