‘The High Tea’ has been described as a delicious excuse for the ladies to dress up, look good and share their stories over tea and good food. Created by Zimbabwean, South African based Social Entrepreneurs Bonnie Chimanikire and Zoe Sibanda; the event is about bringing like minded women together for a common purposes of empowerment, encouragement and inter-dependence among women from different nationalities, backgrounds and races.
“We target women in business, aspiring female entrepreneurs, leading women in communities and careers and any woman looking to be among other women in hopes to gain knowledge, unity, support and resources across a wide range of industries & interests. A fun filled enriching afternoon where we hear the powerful stories from women in different areas of their lives. Enjoy an afternoon filled with learning, pampering, entertainment and fashion showcases from Africa’s finest fashion forward designers.” said Co-Founder Bonnie Chimanikire
The event which is a little under five years ago kicked off in South Africa to much applause and success in hosting notable speakers such as Ghanaian businesswoman, Sheila Afari, humanitarian Matthew Mensah and former former Editor of the Business Day ZA – Songezo Zibi to mention a few. This April becomes Zimbabwe’s turn, a long awaited plan Bonnie explained,
” The heart of this movement is in Zimbabwe…ever since the high tea was launched in SA, we had plans of spreading outside SA borders into the rest of Southern Africa and naturally Zimbabwe was next. Of course we received a lot of discouragement about launching in Zimbabwe however if we as Zimbabweans got cold feet, we would not be staying true to our values”
The High Tea incorporates a Mentorship Programme as well as an ‘#AskAMan Panel’
“This is an event for women, by women. The only men that will be present are the gentleman in the #AskAMan panel and the pamper booth.#AskAMan serves as an opportunity for the audience to ask the selected men from around the country, anything from relationship and societal gender issues. tackled by married, divorced and single men” said Bonnie.
The High Tea has its eye set on greater heights beyond Zimbabwe and South Africa this is clear in their adamance in maintaining a cultured quality experience explained Bonnie;
“We want to inspire, motivate and encourage women all over the world. It seemed like a far fetched dream when we launched two years ago but as each day passes by we are edging closer and closer to fulfilling our vision. When we hear of past guests who were inspired to start a business, go back to school or seek counselling. We can’t help but see a bigger picture”
