Border Timbers’ lumber (also called timber) production went down to 37,570 cubic meters from 46, 836 of the same period in 2017 for the last six months leading to December.

Border Timbers is in the business of growing, milling and manufacturing timber from managed plantations.

“Lumber production is lower compared to same period prior year due to low production in the month of December 2018 at one of our sawmills caused mainly by the general power outages,” the company says in its trading update 6 months to 31 December 2018.

The Unaudited 12 Months to 30 June lumber production reflect that the company produced 62,519 cubic meters.

Besides lumber, Border Timbers treated poles reflect a decline according to the Unaudited December 2018 Production and Sales Volumes.

“Treated poles reflect a decline in both production and sales as they are tender based,” the trading update 6 months to 31 December 2018 says.

“There has been a reduction in demand for poles hence low production compared to comparable period December 2017.”

“Sleeper volume reflect a significant decline for both production and sales compared to prior periods. We did not receive significant orders for sleepers during the period under review.”

The company’s sales volume was however higher due to increased demand on the local and export markets.

“Higher than production sales volume was achieved out of sales from buffer stock,” the trading update says.
